ABSTRACT

Ureterocele, congenital dilatation of the terminal or intramural portion of the ureter, may be classified as either simple or ectopic and has a broad spectrum of presentation, anatomy and treatment must be individualized. From February, 1986 to March, 1994, our experiences with 8 single system ureteroceles and 12 duplex system ureteroceles were reviewed. Their presentation, radiographic findings, operative management and postoperative results were discussed. The patients in this series were distribution from 1 year old to 66 years old and the male and female ratio was 4:16. The most presenting symptom was flank pain, affecting 7 cases, and ureterocele was associated with ureteral stone: 7 cases, VUR: 2 cases, renal cyst: 1 case, and IgA nephropathy:1 case. In 8 cases of single system ureterocele, Transurethral incision(TUI) of ureterocele in 1 case, ureterocelectomy with ureteroneocystostomy in 3 cases were done. In 12 cases of duplex system ureterocele, TUI of ureterocele in 2 cases, heminephrectomy with partial ureterocelectomy in 2 cases were done. After operation was done, there was no evidence of complication. We conclude that the surgical approach to the problems associated with a ureterocele is modified by patient age, renal anomaly and the pathological condition of the lower urinary tract.

ABSTRACT

The contracted bladder has a high intravesical pressure, noncompliant, small-capacity bladder. The goal of augmentation cystoplasty is the preserving of renal function at low pressure during storage, and effective voiding without residual urine. Even though, there is some controversy, the vesicoureteral reflux with contracted bladder influence on renal function. Herein, we report a case of contracted bladder with unilateral functioning kidney and vesicoureteral reflux, which was treated with augmentation cystoplasty with ileocolic pouch (Le bag).

ABSTRACT

Color Doppler ultrasonography was performed in 41 patients with the acute onset of scrotal pain. of the 32 cases of 33 inflammatory diseases (epididymitis n=19, epididymo-orchitis n=12, orchitis n=1) color Doppler image demonstrated increased epididymal or testicular flow. Color Doppler ultrasonography correctly predicted the need for surgery in 5 of 9 operated patients and correctly predicted the outcome in all 32 nonoperated patients. In the two cases of 3 detorsions which were evident in color Doppler ultrasonography was incorrectly diagnosed with testis scintigraphy. Color Doppler ultrasonography is more effective than testis scintigraphy. Results show that color Doppler ultrasonography helps accurately correlate anatomy and perfusion in real time and may prove to be the definitive imaging technique for the diagnostic evaluation of the acute scrotum.

ABSTRACT

Renal oncocytomas are neoplasms consisting of oncocytes, which are large epithelial cells with finely granular eosinophilic cytoplasm. The incidence of these tumors are unknown and exceedingly rare but believed to range between 5 and 10% of renal cortical tumors. Although renal oncocytomas are considered benign neoplasms, they are difficult to differentiate from renal cell carcinomas and easily misdiagnosed as carcinomas. We report a case that are indistinguishable from renal cell carcinoma preoperatively and another case showing apparently benign nature, despite its large size, 17 x 15cm and 8 years long history. So a provisional diagnosis of renal oncocytoma was made after renal computed tomography demonstrated characteristic appearance of this tumor and the diagnosis was confirmed with electron microscopy.
